Real Madrid teenager Rodrygo has rejected comparisons with Paris Saint Germain star Neymar, saying it is “idiocy” to put him on the same skill level or ranking as the 26 year old Brazilian footballer. The 18 year old moved from Santos to the Santiago Bernabéu during the summer after the two clubs agreed a deal in 2018. Rodrygo is Madrid’s young talent and his future could look bright in comparison to Neymar’s during his early years.

Like Neymar, he is a hugely talented Brazilian attacker. Rodrygo on the other hand is clearly eager to avoid comparison to Neymar. Stated “Neymar is Neymar and Rodrygo is Rodrygo. What he does no one else will do the same. People want to compare us and there is no comparison… He’s one of my idols, but we can not compare.” They both started from the same background and rose under the team of Santos, but their play styles are similar. Skillful, quick, and explosive is how they love to play.

Neymar started his senior career at Santos like Rodrygo and won the 2011 Copa Libertadores with the Brazilian club before earning a move to Barcelona in 2013, when he was 21. Neymar established himself as one of the world’s best players at the Camp Nou, winning two La Liga titles before becoming the world’s most expensive player when PSG paid 200 million for him in 2017. He was starting to be unhappy in Barcelona and was in the “shadow” of Lionel Messi. Mbappe is now one of the world’s main attractions and is on PSG, so Neymar might have to over come that.
