Soccer is more than a sport

Soccer to me is more than a sport. Its a lifestyle, a state of mind, even a position in life. Everyday I wake up with the mindset of how I can improve on my technical skills or shot. I spend 2-4 hours everyday at the field with friends while improving on myself and guiding them to constantly improve their skills too. Most of my friends always ask me “how do you get better on your shot?” This is all about technique and time.

It took me 1-2 years to get the right technique to hit a knuckleball, but its still not the crazy movement I want. I’m going to keep practicing it until I think I’ve perfected it. Time tells, but you are the one that determines if you improve or not. I always spare time everyday to have a soccer ball at my foot even if its by myself. This sport is a lifestyle, so you have to be committed and always finding ways to improve. I always get advice from my soccer coach on how to improve and create chances in or out of the game. College coaches go to most of my games, so I’m always motivated to keep my grades up in school because they look at those things. I want them to see me as a smart student, but a even better soccer player.

This summer of 2019 I attended the USA Cup in Blaine, Minnesota. We ended up winning the U19 Silver Bracket with the Champion on our backs. When we came back to Arcola, Illinois, our home town greeted us with a parade. I encountered new people that knew who I was, but I didn’t even know them. This is what I love about this sport. You get the opportunity to meet new people and attend huge tournaments to show off your skills for coaches to notice you. Soccer to me is a way of living and I will never get bored of having a soccer ball at my foot. If you’re committed and have the mindset of improving then you come accomplish something great in life. People might tease you, bully you, but you just have to get up and do what you love. Soccer always relieves all the stress inside my body and I always have a purpose or a goal when I head on the field.
