In the beginning of this year Fredy Moreno the coach of the Arcola Rec U19 team presented the team of what changes will be made to the tennis courts. Before the changes, the tennis court was always trashed, filled with broken glass bottles, yet we played on the court since I was 7.
The soccer fields were in terrible condition, so we played on the blacktop. On the far end of the blacktop, there was no tennis net. We put two trash bins together and the poles of the fence as our goals. Many people would come and play from 4-10pm everyday in the summer. The park slowly year after year died down because we all grew older and had our own responsibilities to take care of. Fredy Moreno pushed for a change and the new blacktop was made with a soccer court, basketball court, and tennis court. This change really helped improve the community and how other towns see Arcola. He also helped improve the fields conditions and added a net behind the big field goal, so the ball will not hit any cars in the parking lot. I personally think that this was a great innovation to our public park. I love the sport and I’m willing to play in any kind of condition. I go to the new blacktop almost everyday to go play soccer with my friends from 5-8 everyday. I really believe we are a great community and can accomplish anything if we put our mind to it.
